Dec. Seminar: Right Whale Update
An MRC Lagoon at Noon Seminar
December 5, 2023
12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Right Whale season has arrived in Florida! These beautiful and endangered giants have migrated south to give birth to their young in our warm, shallow waters, but there is still peril in this paradise. Tune into this presentation to hear updates from the past year and breaking news from the current season.
This Seminar is an in-person event that will also be available live on Zoom.
The seminar will end with a live Q&A session, but we also recommend that participants to please email any questions you might have that relate to this topic to caitlin@mrcirl.org.
Given the limited seating in the Lagoon House, and an increased demand for in-person tickets, there is now a $5 in-person attendance fee. Please feel free to bring your own lunch. Coffee and cookies will be provided. Viewing Lagoon at Noon Presentations via Zoom and Facebook Live continue to be free. We thank you for your continued support of our Lagoon at Noon, formerly Lunch & Learn Program.
When registering for online viewing, the Zoom link will be in your Eventbrite confirmation email, under “Additional Information.” A recording of the presentation will be posted to the MRC’s YouTube channel for future viewing.
This education series is made possible by charitable donations. If interested and able, MRC humbly asks attendees to contribute toward fueling future Lagoon at Noon seminars. Thank you for your consideration.
Meet the Presenter
Julie Albert is the Network Director/Trainer at Blue World Research Institute (BWRI). Her passion for marine mammals began in northwest Ohio where she enjoyed Sea World as a child. However, seeing whales in the wild for the first time on a family vacation to Hawaii in 1988 solidified this passion. She went on to earn her B.S. in Marine Biology from Texas A&M University at Galveston in 1995. She also volunteered for the Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network, worked in cephalopod aquaculture, and raised king penguins before moving to Florida in 1999. Shortly thereafter, Julie became MRC’s Right Whale Program Coordinator, educating the public about how we can be better stewards of our ocean environment and its inhabitants.
Julie and the Right Whale Program transitioned to BWRI in 2023. She is a proud wife and mother of three wonderful children and is passionate not only about marine mammal conservation, but also animal welfare, recycling, and litter reduction. She always leaves the beach better than she found it!
MRC’s Lagoon at Noon Seminar series (formerly Lunch & Learn) is a long-standing and cherished social offered to the East Central Florida coast region, and is supported by volunteers and the community’s charitable giving. If interested and able, we ask participants to donate toward our guest speaker series. All donations are tax-deductible.
