Habitat Restoration Unpaid Internship

Interns wanted to assist the MRC in its efforts to save the Indian River Lagoon through the Living Shoreline Program. MRC is pleased to offer this opportunity with the goal of enhancing real world experiences for local college level students.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with invasive species removal
  • Coordinate mangrove planting workshops
  • Maintain rain gardens in front of MRC
  • Upkeep of the nature trails by the MRC

Qualifications:

  • Major in Ecology, Conservation Biology, or related field
  • Sophomore level or above
  • Interest in native plant gardening
  • Proficient in invasive and native plant identification
  • Enthusiasm for conservation and the Indian River Lagoon
  • Availability and personal transportation to work flexible hours during the week and occasional Saturdays

Completion of a final written report* due to internship advisor must include:

  • Log of hours
  • Project Metrics defined in Post Report Rubric
  • A description of any and all projects you worked on during internship
  • A summary of skills learned, shift in perspectives, reflections, and implications you may have faced during the internship

*This final report may be combined with a course project and tailored to meet the needs of the course.
