International Mangrove Day Celebration 2019

Mangroves Matter! Please join the Marine Resources Council in Celebration of International Mangrove Day. This is an educational and fun event to help raise awareness and funds to save our Indian River Lagoon! (We are raising funds through event t-shirt sales. Once you RSVP, please show your support by purchasing your Mangroves Matter Shirt.)

This event is free and open to the public! Attendees must RSVP and are encouraged to pre-order food, merchandise, and VIP passes at the time of registration. (Event shirts are only available by pre-order!) Get your tickets today.

  • 9:30 a.m. Rain Barrel Workshop
    Free to attend. $55 to build a 55-gallon rain barrel at the workshop to take home. The City of Melbourne is offering a $50 rain barrel rebate for its residents; click here for details.
  • 10:30 a.m. MRC Mangrove Presentation
  • 11 a.m. Mangrove Potting & Planting Workshop
  • 11:30 a.m. Foodservice & Live Music Begins
  • 12:30 p.m. Educational Presentation TBD
    (Mangrove Propagule Contest Winner Announced)
  • 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. Social & Live Music Continues

Join our mangrove propagule collection contest! Propagules are starting to fall and wash up on our beaches and lagoon shorelines. The attendee that brings the most live mangrove seeds and propagules to the event will win a 55-gallon Rain Barrel and an event t-shirt. (Propagules must be turned in by 10:30 a.m. the day of the event.)

Adopt a Mangrove or Become an MRC Mangrove Farmer! At this event, you can learn how to grow mangroves at home for MRC’s future shoreline restoration projects, or signup to volunteer at MRC’s mangrove farms (Palm Bay & Sebastian).

We look forward to hosting this International Mangrove Day Celebration on the importance of mangroves in the Indian River Lagoon and the regulations in place to protect them. This is a great opportunity for lagoon residents to learn how to manage their mangroves or restore their shoreline.
