Developing New Shoreline Restoration Techniques

An MRC Lagoon at Noon Seminar

September 12, 2023
12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.

MRC’s Lunch & Learn is now Lagoon at Noon! Mara Skadden, Restoration Coordinator at MRC and Adjunct Professor for Biology at EFSC, presents September’s Lagoon at Noon: Developing New Shoreline Restoration Techniques. See below for video from this event.

Florida’s coastlines have experienced significant erosion due to sea level rise, coastal development, deforestation, and strong storms. Coastal erosion impacts native plant and animal species and reduces coastal ecosystem services. This talk will examine how shoreline restoration techniques used at Ted Moorhead Lagoon House have progressed and what has been learned and planned for the site.

The Presentation Features

  • The effect of erosion on Florida’s shorelines, and native plants and animals
  • How shoreline restoration techniques used at Ted Moorhead Lagoon House have progressed
  • What we’ve learned and how we’re planning for the future
