In the 1950s, the Indian River Lagoon was crystal clear and its bounty seemed limitless. Growth and development took its toll and now our nation’s most biologically diverse estuary can no longer claim that distinction. Journey through the decades as Laurilee tells the story of her life on the Indian River, from the days of gin-clear waters, through its downfall and then to hope as a new generation works to bring our most precious natural resource back to its former splendor and productivity. About Our Presenter
Ms. Laurilee Thompson is a fourth-generation Floridian and co-owner of the popular Dixie Crossroads Seafood Restaurant in Titusville Florida, which specializes in serving wild-caught domestic seafood. Laurilee participates on numerous boards and committees supporting tourism, the commercial fishing industry, and the environment, including Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association, Save Our Indian River Lagoon Citizen Oversight Committee, Indian River Lagoon National Estuary Program Management Board, Merritt Island Wildlife Association, Hubbs Sea World Research Institute, and the Deepwater Shrimp Advisory Panel for the South Atlantic Fisheries Management Council. She served for twenty years on the Brevard County Tourist Development Council, always working to preserve and promote our region’s incomparable outdoor assets.
This virtual event is free but you must register to receive the zoom link and login information. If interested and able, we ask participants to donate toward our guest speaker series.
